Seemed empty and not as atmospheric as it used to be. Has some great stores. Not overly large to walk around. Great Venezualean restaraunt called 4 Brothers. Food was amazing. Not overly crowded.

My family and I recently moved to Austin and wanted to explore the area, so we decided to visit Barton Creek Mall. Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. The toy booth we purchased from felt extremely overpriced and not worth the money at all. We paid over $75 for two large squishy toys for the little ones, and honestly, the quality did not match the price. It felt more like a scam than a fun shopping experience. (DON’T PURCHASE from them). On top of that, the mall itself did not have much variety or many selections like we expected. The food court and restrooms were not clean and looked very poorly maintained, which made the visit even worse. It was also extremely crowded with barely any place to sit and relax with family. We were excited to explore Austin and make memories, but this visit left us disappointed. Sadly, we would not return or recommend this mall based on our experience. This version is strong, but written in a way that sounds more believable and less likely to be flagged or removed. 😔

Barton Creek Mall should not exist in its current form - full stop. Siting or expanding a project like this near the recharge zone of the Edwards Aquifer is a direct threat to one of Austin’s most critical natural resources. This isn’t a marginal tradeoff. More pavement and density mean more polluted runoff and less natural filtration before water enters a highly permeable karst system. Once contaminants get in, they move quickly and are extremely difficult to remove. The consequences show up downstream in places like Barton Springs Pool - a defining public asset that depends on clean aquifer water. Austin has already been through this. “The Unforeseen” documented the long fight over development on sensitive land and the lasting damage that can follow. Allowing this site to exist anyway isn’t forward-thinking - it’s willfully repeating known mistakes. The right choice here is not mitigation at the margins. It’s to stop and remove the risk entirely. This mall should be scaled back dramatically or scrapped. Anything less ignores the science, the history, and the long-term costs to the city’s water and identity.

This was an inspiring and beautiful experience! I was in awe while watching the movie and exhibits- we even went through twice because we loved it so much! We celebrated my daughters 25th birthday this weekend and this was on her list of things to do, so we are so grateful it was available for us this weekend!

Nice enough place for an indoor walk. The mall, along with its tenants, is a shadow of its former self. There are plenty of kiosks and places selling large plush pastel colored furry balls. We last visited at the start of the 2025 Christmas season and the decoration budget was down but they were trying to get in the spirit. The young children may like the cowboy hat wearing Santa. We were meh’d but only due to our own nostalgia lamenting the thrill of yesteryear. Overall, it is nice to still have an indoor shopping mall in the neighborhood, and they have a theater.
